165 families now have a better future through housing, thanks to Habitat El Salvador and SISTEMA FEDECRÉDITO

March 16, 2021. Hábitat El Salvador and SISTEMA FEDECRÉDITO made good in delivering the project “Rebuilding homes affected by Tropical Storm Amanda”, which impacted the lives of 165 families in 5 departments of the country. Both organizations gave an added amount of $632,500, for the construction of 55 permanent houses and the installation of 110 new roofs.

“At Habitat El Salvador we thank God because, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and with the support of institutions such as SISTEMA FEDECRÉDITO, we were able to serve families affected by Tropical Storm Amanda. Housing breaks the cycles of poverty in communities, and that is what we are always looking for. In each project we have 3 stages: reflection, action, and celebration. Now we celebrate with each of the 165 families”. Beatriz Bejarano, Operations Manager at Habitat El Salvador.

“As SISTEMA FEDECRÉDITO we reaffirm our interest in the well-being of Salvadorans, and hand in hand with our allies, in this occasion Habitat El Salvador and all the people that with their donation joined this project. We feel fortunate to be able to provide a safe and decent housing solution to so many families who went through difficult times due to the storms that hit the country in 2020. As a 100% Salvadoran institution, we are pleased to contribute through providing homes, and the replacement of roofs to improve the quality of life of many families” Claudia Abrego, Communications Manager at FEDECRÉDITO.

This project is part of the work that Habitat El Salvador carries out as part it´s Humanitarian Response towards Disasters; like to the Covid-19 pandemic and the different tropical storms that affected the country in 2020. 67% of the homes that where benefited from this project have a woman as head of the household.

“My family came to this area affected by Tropical Storm 12-E (in the year 2011) and the climate has kept changing. Over the years, the floods got worse, but now with our new house, the situation is going to change. On behalf of the families benefited, I have no words to thank them”, said Rosa Ycela Rodas de Argueta, one of the beneficiaries who received a house in Flor Amarilla, Ciudad Arce.
